What is CSIR UGC NET ?

CSIR UGC NET, also known as the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test, is a national-level exam in India. It is jointly conducted by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the University Grants Commission (UGC). The exam is aimed at determining the eligibility of candidates for lectureship and for awarding Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in various science disciplines. CSIR UGC NET covers subjects such as Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences. Qualifying this exam opens doors to teaching and research opportunities in universities and research institutions across India

CSIR UGC NET Eligibility Criteria 2024

Educational Qualification –

  1. Candidates need a Master’s degree or equivalent in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD).
  2. Those currently pursuing MSc or similar programs (Integrated BS-MS/BS-4 years/BE/BTech/BPharma/MBBS) can apply under the Result Awaited (RA) category.
  3. BSc (Hons) degree holders with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD) or those in an integrated MS-PhD program are eligible.
  4. Only Bachelor’s degree holders qualify for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), not for Lectureship (LS)/Assistant Professor roles.

Age  Limit –

  1. For Junior Research Fellow (JRF) – Maximum age limit is 30 years.
  2. For Assistant Professor / Lectureship (LS) – No upper age limit applies.

  2. Select “CSIR NET apply online” from the homepage.
  3. Register by clicking “New Registration” and filling required details.
  4. Check the box and proceed to complete the application form.
